ISM
and ISPS
The ISM code is a mandatory
management system for all commercial
vessels over 500 GT. It consists of
a documented set of procedures that
govern onboard safety and pollution
prevention. Adherence to the code is
verified by audits from flag state
surveyors and compliant yachts are
issued with a Safety Management
Certificate. By employing Eusamarine
to administer ISM aboard his yacht,
an owner has the twin benefits of
knowing that his vessel is being run
to international safety standards
and that his responsibility for
ensuring the yacht’s seaworthiness
is shared with CNI.
Like the ISM code, ISPS applies to
all commercial vessels over 500 GT.
The code was developed in response
to the altered global security
situation following the 9/11 attacks
in the US. In order to comply with
the code each vessel must have an
approved security plan containing
measures that can be implemented for
various security levels set by
governments. Eusamarine has
extensive experience in conducting
security assessments aboard yachts
and producing approved shipboard
security plans. Our approach is
pragmatic and achieves compliance
with a minimum of expense and
disruption to a yacht’s operation.
